How do I get to Roatan?

Roatan is easily accessible from the US with direct flights from Miami (Sundays) and Houston (Saturdays and Sundays) on Taca Airlines. Continental Airlines operates 2 direct flights from Houston on Saturday. Delta also offers direct flights from Atlanta on Saturday. Daily flights on Continental and American are available to San Pedro Sula on the mainland, with a short connecting flight to the island.

How do I get to Mariposa del Mar?

You will be met at the airport by our local representative on arrival and will be transported back at the end of your stay - that is if you ever want to leave this tropical paradise!!

What should I pack?

Whatever clothes you bring will probably be too much. Formality is nonexistent on Roatan. Bring your snorkel gear and swimsuit. Don't forget a supply of insect repellant- we use the spray bottles of "Off"- and don't forget your suntan lotion! We also recommend that you bring a cooler of frozen meat (also cheese) in original packaging with USDA stamps. There is a strictly enforced limit of 5 lbs of meat per person. You are not allowed to carry in chicken, but that is no problem as it is readily available on the island.

Is there grocery shopping nearby?

There are two well-stocked supermarkets on the island which carry a fair range of American goods, but are obviously more expensive than in the US. Chicken, seafood of all types, fruit and vegetables are in abundance. Liquor and beer is significantly cheaper than back home. Eldon's, located in French Harbour, is the closest supermarket to Mariposa del Mar. See our note under 'What should I pack' for more information..

What activities should I consider?
  • Visit the quaint village of Oakridge, some ten minutes drive away.
  • Take a water taxi through the mangrove canals and see the houses built on stilts over the water.
  • Have lunch in one of the great little restaurants right on the water. One of our favorites is "Hole-in-Wall" which offers an-all-you-can-eat surf and turf buffet on Fridays & Sundays in their shack right over the water, all for $25!
  • Take the car to colorful West End with its bars, restaurants, dive shops and souvenir stores.
  • Swing through the treetops on Roatan's Canopy Tour, located on the road to West Bay.
  • A second exciting canopy tour is now available near French Harbour on the Palmetto Bay road.
  • Go diving on the incredible coral reef that surrounds the island. Not a diver? No problem! Take a course while you're here with one of the many professional dive shops.
  • Go golfing - Mariposa del Mar has a corporate membership at The Black Pearl Golf Course located on Roatan's beautiful North Shore. Our guests receive preferential tee time reservations!
  • Relax on the beautiful sandy beach at West Bay.
  • Maybe just stay at home, enjoy the view and grill lobster or fresh fish bought from the local fishermen.
